Last night when we were eating downtown we met several locals. An American couple from Denver came to our table and started talking with us. They just moved here from Denver around 2 months ago. She had just had her baby here 3 weeks ago. They love the town of Atenes and say there is so much that can be done here. She said there are people everywhere in need. You can turn in any direction and find someone in great need. We exchanged email addresses and plan on meeting with them again during our stay here.
After speaking with the American couple, a Costa Rican woman began talking with us. She has lived all over Costa Rica and was able to answer so many questions about all the different towns and communities that we thought could be possibilities for us to live. She and her husband are very involved in the community around them and helping the orphans, poor, and needy. Her husband is an American. She began telling me about all the different people they are involved with right now. We expressed our interest to her for our desire to spread the Gospel to the lost and to follow in the steps of Jesus seeing and to the needs of the poor and needy as he did. She said that she is assisting with a Nicaraguan family who was brought into the country to save their lives. They are in great danger. A little info that we learned. In Nicaragua some people have a card that is given out by the president, but if you are a person who does not receive one of these cards then you are unable to buy food, find housing, no work. You are a nobody and people seek you and your family out to kill you. This family that is here in Costa Rica has no plumbing and lives in the confines of a 5X5 square. The tennants of this building relieve themselves in all aspects, on the roof where it then slides off and into the river below. They have no food. The woman we met invited us to accompany her when she visits this family to assess their needs on food. She says that she only takes what they need for about 2 days, because they are so desperate they will sell everything if you bring excess. We agreed to speak with her on Sunday night and make definitive plans for Monday.
Had we not had all our plans changed by God we would have not met these people and learned about this family that needs a toilet, food, and diapers and formula for their baby. God's plan is always greater than anything we can forsee.

ReplyDeleteKevin and I are drinking up your posts! They are so motivating!
Can't wait to see what the next day holds for you!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing your days with us! I'm anxious to hear if you actually get to meet this family from Nicaragua and to view their living conditions.
ReplyDeleteAs a side note...hoping Jonah's asthma is doing ok in a different country. Every time he comes to Savoy it acts up really bad. Been thinking about him and Leia and wondering how they are holding up.
